Dries van Noten's take on grunge

Oh yes, finally here it is, a bit of grunge! G and myself have been talking about how we'd love a big 90's grunge revival and sourcing all sorts of memorabilia and inspiration from the good old 90's. Although the trend has not become the big hit we crossed our fingers for in the catwalk, we have to admit it is not that hard to find some bits and pieces on the high street (and the back of your closet) and put together a Gwen Stefani-ish look of this sort >>

So, since I know G's absolutely crazy about the 90's and she breathes it every day, including some shocking music selections (la la la, love you G) and she'd put together the best little How-To-Do-90's in the entire internet, I'm gona do my snob job and look for that special designer who has the guts to put grungy-dyke-looking clothes on the catwalk. This time I'm talking about Dries Van Noten, who last season (last season being Spring, so actually..this season in human time, not fashion time) and even this season (and yes, by this season I know mean Autumn in fashion timescale!) has incorporated a 90´s vibe into his collections. And tartan, lots of it. I mean it. So much tartan. Even on silk - yes yes! Where there isn't actual tartan, there is printed tartan pattern on other fabrics!

Back to Drie Van Noten's take on grunge: there is a catch. (I mean come on people, of coure there is a catch, we're talking high fashion here, not costume reproductions! If he wanted to invent 90's grunge he'd be 20 years late now!) The styling is Oh So Femenine it is almost hard to see past the red lipstick and diva sunglasses sometimes. Oh well. In all honesty I still love it! dHave a look at this selection :)

Having this as the closing runway look is just..no words :') Tears running down my eyes of emotion for this reinvented finale gown. This is how I'd imagine Penny Lane dressed for her improvised wedding by the seaside cliffs if there was ever a sequel to Almost Famous... I mean how come NOBODY has done a sequel yet?! After watching the extended cut repeatedly I genuinely bonded with the characters, and then PUFF they just went away!

So, all in all, hope you've had a blast down memory lane like I have looking at DvN's latest collections...from No Doubt to young Kate Hudson, whimsical woodcutter or formerly punk chick hiding her tartan under her older boyfriend's sweater, being taken away by every look can only mean one thing, and that's a job well done putting together a show!

G´s ´omg i need to buy this` List.

Okay, hi there!
I thought i´d make some kind of favorites post and i´ve seen quite a lot of stuff thats appeared for this (hopefully) beautiful season.

Kicking off my ≤3 of today is this STUNNING little black mesh jacket from Yayer.com which i think is perfect for this lovely warm weather thats been pounced on us.
It retails at £40 but at the moment is on sale for just £30.
I´d probably wear it with a black vest or a crop top with a maxi skirt or some high waist matte leggings with chunky shoes as it has that very 90´s feel about it. (I tend to live my life in the colour black so you will notice a pattern within this post haha).

Next is this basic grey jersey above ankle dress, I say above ankle because it´s not quite maxi and im not sure if theres a professional term for that? Not very professional for a fashion enthusiast blogger´to ay i hear my voice in my head mumble. On ASOS.com by Cheap Monday its retailed at £40 which i think is a fair price considering HEY its Cheap friggin Monday dude. I actually have a similar one a good friend of mine bought me a couple of years ago from CM, except that the one i have has a lot more material and is ultra baggy. Anyway, this simple but striking piece needs not much detail in accessories to make it snap out as the detailing on the racer back and the drop sides are plenty statement enough so id use a couple of handful of rings, some gladiators (like the model) and maybe a choker to style with this.

Right i know i´m being greedy but they're so gorgeous in both colours i don't think i could let one live in my wardrobe without the other? It would just be unfair, they´d get lonely...

These Jeffrey Campbell Clottlace cut out boots retail at £130 in black and £135 in white. I think they´d both go with pretty much anything, even with or without socks! They´d look actually adorable with those little white socks you used to get a a kid with the little frilly things at the top if you wanted to go with a Lolita look.

This next one is probably the most upsetting for me as i will probably never buy these as i´ll don't have earlobes... My ears are stretched and i find it really weird when people wear like actual dangle earrings on their second and third sets?!?! Are you crazy!!! They don't even dangle so people can see them unless your hairs up. Sad times. But anyway they retail at £8 on eBay.com So if you´re creepy like but and have normal ears not like me, totally get them.

Lastly is this oh so beautifully ugly spiked backpack on eBay.com. I did actually have one of these when i was about 13 in black but i threw it into a boot sale when it got too tired. It retails at only £25.09 (what a weird price right? why is the 09 pence needed :S)

Soooooo anyway, thanks for reading and hopefully these items will be in mine or you´r closet soon!

LIE SANG BONG - READY TO WEAR - FALL WINTER 2013 - PARIS

Something that we  ≤3

Lie Sang Bong stepped away with this collection from avant-garde couture, from structural pieces, pointy shoulders and impossible fabrics..he even left the laser cutter alone for a bit! And guess what. WE LOVE IT. Androgynous minimalist looks with random punches of colour and customized brothel creepers? Yes, please!

Looks 16 and 35 of the collection are our mutual favourites. (This is probably as far as we go in this collection with colour as you will see our personal fav´s underneath haha.) Call us part-time lesbians* or whatever you please, but cannot look away from this oddly proportionate looks. So boyish, so sexy! 16 with her androgynous face pulling off that oversized sweater and overly feminine skirt is a win-win, and as soon as we win the lottery Miss G will be rocking similar runway looks, ladies and gents. For what S is concerned, high-waisted pants are always the smart way forward to avoid the nothingness going on around the chest area - which hey, seems to be the case with this model too! Aah life's contradictions..we love curves, we love flat. Which takes us to our next contradiction! Our personal favourites from this minimalist b&w/pastel collection: pretentious, colourless.

G´s Fav:
I mean come on. That chrome shaved or slicked (whatever they´ve done. S is telling me it´s slicked) alien hair mixed in with that pom poof fluff fantasticness she´s wearing, how can you not drool all over the screen?? The model is rocking this sort of cyber goth-esque look with plain work pants. Such a innocent face that stands out from this screaming rebellious jacket. I err kinda want to go into the coat closet and attack with duct tape my faux fur TKMaxx coat... Just saying.

S´s Fav:
Let me start with HA! I GET TO WRITE NEXT TO MY IMAGE! The internet loves me. I have been staring at these painted creepers for a few days now so...things are happening...to my creepers...uuh...creepy. I'm a moron but that doesn't matter because this coat is fantastic and although the big sunglasses are giving it a 60's look that really fucking bothers me, if nothing about this image annoyed me I would've never looked at it in the first place. And that's what it's all about right, catching my (our) attention? Well, it did, and now i'm dying for those coat and trousers so might me on another replica making mission soon!

S's PS: I did not jus SAY that the hair is slicked back, I KNEW it is!! bahahaha I love her really :)

*Thanks Jake for that wonderful description of our lifestyles.

Why you shouldn't think your body is better than Heidi Klum's.

(Spoiler alert: because it is NOT.)

Right... Don't get us wrong, we LOVE an ugly/weird statement piece, and we love your bodies (probably..maybe) and we did not just mean to say that your body is weird/ugly BUT the point is, weird/ugly doesn't always work. This is definitely a fashion faux pas we do not appreciate.
Muscle leggings have been around a couple of seasons now, but it hasn't been until recently that we have all been disgraced with regular public appearances. They didn't look flattering on the fittest and sweetest of them all Heidi Klum at her 2011 Halloween appearance - so why would todays every girl think she should strut the streets in her Patent black heels and pull them off.

Exhibit A: Heidi rocking the red carpet.

As a Halloween costume, boy you scored!! For a second there we did not recognize Heidi's stunning face, or even figure! Which yeah works great for a scary costume -'ha ha! look at that supermodel looking ugly! omg the irony is killing me!'- but for the rest of us mortals (that's meant to be a pun in case you didn't get the cross-reference) would not work at a halloween party as either scary or slutty, LET ALONE our daily lives...oh dear God what have we come to, when are last-chance-to-buy steaks gonna fly off the supermarkets for Gaga reincarnations...? Stay tuned.

Exhibit B: Black Milk´s rendition of Muscle legs.

(Trust us when we assure you this is the most flattering image we could find... Also excuse the pixelation)

G's PS: Seriously at the crotch area...Seriously?? I don't understand. I don´t wear my fallopian tube outside the house before second dates unless it´s absolutely vital...

We would love to hear your opinions on wether you agree with our statement or not.

Hello World.

We love fashion and cats, we hate people.
